Can any reasonably competent DIYer create a wetroom using Aquatecnic products or is an expert needed?
The Aquaproof tanking kit is very easy to use and requires no special skills, however, a wetroom must have a slope to falls under the waterproofing and this can be difficult to achieve, particularly on a wooden floor. One easier method of achieving the slope to falls is to order one of our shower tray formers. These birch ply shower bases have the slope to falls built in so you can fix directly to wooden floor joists or concrete floors.
Is Aquaproof system useful for waterproofing under tiles in a non-wetroom situation?
Yes, Aquaproof is frequently specified for use under conventional shower trays, in bathrooms, kitchens, and toilets. It is a particularly important system for apartments and hotels, where leaks from wet areas can cause serious damage to rooms below.
What surface can Aquaproof Compound be applied to?
Aquaproof Compound can be applied over plywood, screeded concrete, plaster, plasterboard, Wedi board, Marmox board, flush pointed brickwork and existing tiles (without primer).
What sort of tile adhesive should I use over Aquaproof system?
Aquaproof has been tested with many different tile adhesives and has worked with all of them. We recommend the use of any good quality “waterproof” and “flexible” tile adhesive grout.
How long does the Aquaproof have to dry before I can start tiling?
We recommend a minimum of 12 hours between applications of the last coat of Aquaproof Compound and the application of tiles. Aquaproof Compound takes up to two weeks to reach its ultimate strength.
Is Aquaproof Compound compatible with under floor heating systems?
Yes, Aquaproof compound can be used over the water type systems that are covered with a screed ( the Aquaproof sits on the screed) or the electric trace heating type systems set directly over the Aquaproof and are set in the tile adhesive. We are pleased to recommend the Thermoflex heating system which can be purchased from our online store.
Should I use Aquaproof tape over screw/nail heads?
Yes, we recommend that you cover every screw head with Aquaproof compound and a small patch of Aquaproof tape prior to the main Aquaproof coating.
