Having decided to install a wet room you then have some decisions to make regarding your choice of waterproofing / tanking products.

During my 15 years involvement with waterproofing products for wetrooms, I have received many phone calls and emails from people who have wanted a wetroom but have been told by their builder / friend / dog sitter’s neighbour "You can’t have a wet room upstairs".

Wet-rooms can be designed to fit small or large spaces and often provide a simpler and more practical solution than trying to accommodate a conventional shower or bathroom in a small area.

Tanking a wet room is the process needed to make a wet room waterproof and it is vital this is done with an appropriate product which will stand the test of time: here we consider the factors which are important when deciding which tanking product is suitable to use.

Aquaproof tape is bedded into a freshly applied stripe coat of Aquaproof compound at all corners and joints.

Wet room Tanking Kits use the Aquaproof Wetroom Tanking system which has been developed specifically to prevent leakage from wetroom areas and carry the CE mark relating to wet room use.

The Aquaproof compound will seal an area of 10sq.m. and the 15m roll of Aquaproof tape will seal 15 lin.m. of joints/junctions. All items of the kit are also available individually.

Fit the Shower Tray Former in accordance with application instructions and make good around the ​edge of former if necessary.

While it is generally understood that it is necessary to thoroughly waterproof a wet room the situation regarding bathrooms is less clear. In this article we discuss the advice as stated in British Standard BS 5385-4:2015 which advises waterproofing bathrooms in certain circumstances.
